November QISCA Introductory Seminar and Journal Club Held

The November 2025 QISCA Introductory Seminar and Journal Club sessions were successfully held on 10th, 17th, and 24th.
During the November 10th session, Hangyeol Kim from Kwangwoon University delivered an introductory seminar titled "Field Quantization" In the following journal club, Eunji Park from DQQQ presented on "Application of ZNE to a Silicon Spin Qubit."
During the November 17th session, Haeju Jung from DQQQ delivered an introductory seminar titled "Surface Codes for Quantum Error Correction." In the following journal club, Sunggeun Park from QUICK presented on "Quantum Algorithm for Linear Non-unitary Dynamics."
During the November 24th session, Geunho Jang from Dulwich College Seoul delivered an introductory seminar titled "Quantum Control Methods for Cat Code Encoding Pulses: GRAPE & RL." In the following journal club, Yoonjin Bae from SQRT presented on "QqLDPC Code with Open Boundaries and High Efficiency."
QISCA-UCLA QCSA Joint Journal Club

QISCA held a joint journal club with the Quantum Computing Student Association, a quantum information club at the UCLA. Featuring Joonseok Jung from Yonsei University and Oneka Singh from the UCLA Department of Physics and Astronomy, this joint journal club aimed to foster international exchange in quantum information science. Held online to accommodate the time difference between Korea and the US, this joint journal club successfully proceeded with a total of 30 members participating from both sides. The sessions covered topics including the threshold theory of quantum error correction codes and ion shuttling techniques in trapped-ion quantum computer. Each session included a presentation and Q&A lasting 90 minutes. After the journal club, QISCA and QCSA agreed to hold joint academic sessions every six months. This initiative helped establish an international academic network among undergraduate students and fostered research exchange.
Qiskit Fall Fest 2025 @ Sungkyunkwan University Held

Sungkyunkwan University’s Artificial Intelligence Society SKKAI successfully hosted Qiskit Fall Fest 2025 @ Sungkyunkwan University for four days from November 18 to 21, 2025, as an official extension event of IBM Quantum. The event was held in a hybrid format combining workshops and a hackathon, and attracted strong interest and enthusiasm from undergraduate students, graduate students, researchers, and attendees from diverse backgrounds across the country. Approximately 120 participants took part in the event, which was organized and operated by 12 members of SKKAI (Sungkyunkwan AI Association) serving as the organizing team.

During the first half of the event, a series of workshops was conducted with the participation of faculty members from the Department of Quantum Information Engineering at Sungkyunkwan University, the first undergraduate department in quantum engineering in Korea. A total of seven expert lectures covering the full spectrum of quantum computing were delivered, including superconducting quantum computers, ion-trap quantum computers, an introduction to quantum algorithms, classical–quantum hybrid algorithms, spin qubits (NV centers), quantum computer system architecture, and quantum error correction.
In addition, Young-Jip Kim from IBM Korea delivered a Qiskit 101 lecture and an introductory session on IBM, providing participants with an opportunity to understand the role IBM plays within the quantum computing ecosystem and its future technology roadmap.
In the latter half of the event, a two-day hackathon was held based on problems jointly designed by the organizers and faculty members. Participants implemented and solved problems involving quantum algorithms related to parametric quantum circuits (PQC) using Qiskit, thereby gaining hands-on experience in practical quantum computing applications. Following the conclusion of the hackathon, various awards were presented, including the Sungkyunkwan University President’s Award, the Quantum Information Research Support Center Director’s Award, and the IBM Special Award. Outstanding teams received prize money along with official certificates.
The event concluded successfully, earning high satisfaction from participants through the use of IBM Quantum processors, well-structured educational sessions, active Q&A and collaboration, and networking programs that included catering. Qiskit Fall Fest 2025 @ SKKU is regarded as a meaningful milestone in the advancement of quantum computing education and the growth of the domestic quantum computing community.
